A SUBADULT MAXILLA OF A TYRANNOSAURIDAE FROM THE TWO MEDICINE FORMATION, MONTANA, UNITED STATES Pap. Avulsos de Zool. (São Paulo)
DELCOURT,RAFAEL.
ABSTRACT Daspletosaurus is a Campanian genus of Tyrannosauridae from North America. This genus occupied the same geographic area of Albertosaurus, but remains of Albertosaurus are more abundant than Daspletosaurus. Here is described a subadult maxilla (AMNH FARB 5477) of Daspletosaurus sp. from Montana (USA) and possibly from the Two Medicine Formation. The description is based on Carr (1999) that described cranial ontogenetic variations in tyrannosaurids. The maxilla belongs to the ontogenetic Stage 3 sensu Carr (1999), in which the maxilla is thick, the lateral surface of the bone well sculptured, and the maxillary fenestra is subcircular and well separated from the anterior edge of antorbital fossa. Possibly there were more than one species of...

Composição florística e distribuição altitudinal de epífitas vasculares da Floresta Ombrófila Densa na Serra da Prata, Morretes, Paraná, Brasil Biota Neotropica
Blum,Christopher Thomas; Roderjan,Carlos Vellozo; Galvão,Franklin.

ECONOMIC CONTRIBUTION OF THE SUGARBEET INDUSTRY IN MINNESOTA, NORTH DAKOTA, AND EASTERN MINNESOTA AgEcon
Bangsund, Dean A.; Leistritz, F. Larry.
Agricultural industries in small geographical areas with limited acreage tend to be overlooked by those not associated with the growing region or industry. Sugarbeets continue to be produced in a relatively small geographic area and on relatively limited acreage in Minnesota, North Dakota, and eastern Montana. These factors, along with continued debate over policies affecting domestic sugar industries and recent industry expansions, help justify a continued assessment of the economic importance of the sugarbeet industry to the regional economy. Revenues from sugarbeet production and expenditures by processors to Minnesota, North Dakota, and Montana entities in fiscal 2003 represented the direct economic impacts from the industry. Expenditure...

Organizing Meatpacking Cooperatives: Recent Producer Attempts AgEcon
Hogeland, Julie A..
Montana Livestock Cooperative and the Utah-based Intermountain Livestock Packing Association are meatpacking cooperatives established through equity and livestock commitments by producers. Their goals are to obtain sufficient capital to construct and operate a slaughter/processing plant. Member involvement requires a comprehensive feasibility study to show need for the plant and an understanding of cooperative organization.

PERCEPTIONS OF LEAFY SPURGE BY RANCH OPERATORS AND LOCAL DECISION MAKERS: AN UPDATE AgEcon
Sell, Randall S.; Bangsund, Dean A.; Leistritz, F. Larry.
A survey of 476 ranchers and 45 local decision makers (LDM) (521 total) was conducted to evaluate managerial, institutional, and social factors that may affect the rate and extent of implementation of various leafy spurge (Euphorbia esula L.) controls. The respondents represented a four-county region in Montana and North Dakota and are compared and contrasted to a group of ranchers and LDM from surrounding counties surveyed in 1998. The questionnaire focused on weed management in general and specifically on the perceptions and attitudes of ranchers and LDM who have been directly and indirectly affected by leafy spurge. Overall, the updated survey results reveal that ranchers and LDM had fewer problems with all noxious weeds, including leafy spurge than...

THE IMPACT OF KNAPWEED ON MONTANA'S ECONOMY AgEcon
Hirsch, Steven A.; Leitch, Jay A..
The economic impact of three invasive, exotic weeds--diffuse, spotted, and Russian knapweed (Centaurea diffusa, C. maculosa, and Acroptilon repens)--on Montana's economy was estimated using a procedure developed for another invasive weed species. Published data and that from a survey of county weed boards were used to estimate direct negative impacts of over $14 million annually due to infestation of over 2 million acres of rangeland and wildland. This amounts to about $10.63 on each infested grazing land acre and $3.95 on each infested wildland acre. Direct plus secondary economic impacts, estimated using an input-output model, are about $42 million annually, which could support over 500 jobs in the state's economy. This first approximation suggests...
